PhD-HS.it

One of the main objectives of E-RIHS.it is training. In this sense, the most recent contribution of the Italian node is its participation in the PhD-HS.it   the national PhD in Heritage Science recently establishedwith administrative headquarters at Sapienza Università di Roma.

The national doctorate in Heritage Science has the objective of promoting coordination, overcoming the fragmentation of the higher education system in the field of research applied to cultural heritage and creating a new generation of researchers and professionals working in the sector, capable of collaborating and competing in the context of the most prestigious European and international initiatives. To achieve this goal, the PhD-HS.it provides for the mobility of PhD students and professors between different locations within the same curriculum and, when possible, between multiple curricula.
The PhD in heritage science will have a strong international connotation, both to attract students from abroad and to train highly qualified personnel able to compete internationally.
European research infrastructures are the ideal place to train the new generation in a highly interdisciplinary environment characterized by excellence. As part of the PhD-HS.it, the use of research infrastructure facilities by PhD students and their involvement in their activities will therefore be promoted. An ecosystem of research infrastructures recognized at the European and global level and included in the ESFRI Roadmap (European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) operates in the heritage science sector. The main ones are: E-RIHS Italian-led (E-RIHS.it represents the Italian node), and DARIAH ERIC (Digital Research Infrastrutcture for the Arts and Humanities European Research Infrastructure Consortium).
The doctorate is divided into 11 interdisciplinary curricula to cover the vast range of knowledge involved in the cultural heritage sector, from archaeology to artificial intelligence, from art history to physics applied to the study of matter, from museology to environmental sciences, etc.
The goal is to create a system and synergy so that the new generations can benefit from cutting-edge skills born from the partnership between the opportunities of humanistic knowledge and technological innovation.
