In the frame of the E-RIHS ERIC OPENING DAYS to be held in Florence from 12 to14 November 2025 to gather the E-RIHS community following its establishment as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium, the 4th Edition Conference from the Italian Tradition to International Museums and Schools will be dedicated to Professor Antonio Sgamellotti (1939-2025) who dedicated his life with great enthusiasm to science and art, his great passions alongside chemistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born in 1939, Professor Sgamellotti graduated in Chemistry from the University of Rome La Sapienza. For thirty-five years, he served as a full professor of chemistry at the University of Perugia, helping to educate generations of students. In more recent years, since 2010, as Professor Emeritus, he has honored the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei as a member. He also received the prestigious honorary recognition of Academician of Honor from the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his extraordinary career, Professor Sgamellotti not only promoted countless initiatives, producing a wealth of scientific papers, but also pioneered a fundamental innovation: the Mobile Laboratory (MOLAB). This facility, dedicated to the study of artistic artifacts, with the brilliant idea of moving instruments to the artifacts and not the reverse, has been recognized as a research infrastructure by the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This 4th workshop Novel physical and chemical metodologies for the conservation and restoration of Cultural Heritage<\/strong> features Italian scientific experts from some of the most renowned museums and academic institutions in the world. The series provides a platform to showcase innovative chemical and physical methodologies currently used in the field of heritage science by prestigious institutions. In addition, the speakers and panelists share insights into their professional journeys, going from the great Italian tradition of cultural heritage science education to their current roles in museums and academic institutions. They highlight differences in approaches between these aspects, creating a foundation for discussions on potential contributions and collaborative opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dedication to Professor Sgamellotti is a tribute to his pioneering scientific activity which allowed art and science to be connected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
