The European Research Council Advanced Grant &#8216;Greek Schools&#8217; project,\u00a0 coordinated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipi.it\/index.php\/english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Pisa<\/a> together with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispc.cnr.it\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNR ISPC<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilc.cnr.it\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNR ILC<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bnnonline.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MiBACT &#8211; National Library of Naples<\/a>, has started the experimental activity at the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispc.cnr.it\/it_it\/2020\/12\/15\/xraylab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> ISPC Xray Lab in Catania<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The project is based on the most recent research and aims to test the most advanced technologies today available, as an example XFR mapping and photographic imaging measurements at 950 nm, for the deciphering of these precious manuscripts to provide a new innovative critical edition of the whole treatise and its different sections, with extensive introductions and commentaries.<\/p>\n<p>In particular:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the project shall apply non-invasive techniques to both opisthograph and multi-layered papyri belonging to Philodemus\u2019\u00a0<em>Syntaxis<\/em>\u00a0in order to (a)\u00a0read the text hidden on the\u00a0<em>verso<\/em>,\u00a0(b)\u00a0detect, classify and replace overlapping layers, and (c) read\u00a0the text concealed inside the latter;<\/li>\n<li>the project shall combine these state-of-the-art methods with new, sounder philological approaches in order to produce a more reliable and substantially improved critical text of Philodemus\u2019 treatise and its various sections through an innovative editorial system;<\/li>\n<li>the project shall produce an open-access electronic edition of it through a pioneering open-source scholarly Web platform, engaging the scientific community in an ongoing and online collaborative review of the critical edition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>See more at <a href=\"https:\/\/greekschools.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/greekschools.eu\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Herculaneum papyri contain the oldest history of Greek philosophy in our possession Since they are a fragile testimony of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":17,"featured_media":4293,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"on","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[693,296,229,64,302,692,696,697,695,690,691,694],"class_list":{"0":"post-4290","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"tag-biblioteca-nazionale-di-napoli","9":"tag-catania","10":"tag-cnr-ispc","11":"tag-heritage-science","12":"tag-imaging-a-raggi-x","13":"tag-mibact","14":"tag-non-invasive-techniques","15":"tag-open-source-scholarly-web-platform","16":"tag-philodemus","17":"tag-universita-di-pisa","18":"tag-xraylab-catania","19":"tag-xrf-mapping"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.0 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>The ERC project &quot;Greek Schools&quot;
